PERFIL

Minotaur premiered at the 79th edition of the Festival de Cannes, nine years after Loveless and following a long recovery that left Andrey Zvyagintsev hospitalised for almost a year after contracting COVID-19. The Russian director, now exiled in France, returns to competition with a film that once again projects his lucid and morally incisive взгляд on Russia. Shot in Latvia for obvious reasons, the film marks the return of one of the great cinematic chroniclers of the post-Soviet ethical collapse, the author of several Cannes-awarded works: The Banishment (Best Actor for Konstantin Lavronenko in 2007), Leviathan (Best Screenplay in 2014) and Loveless (Jury Prize in 2017).
