I take advantage of this complicated situation to gather DJs from all over the globe who have been affected by the state of confinement due to C19. These are their testimonies.
CURSES
Berlin-based Curses blends New Wave and Post-Punk with his ghostly vocals and guitars, punctuated with flashes of 80’s EBM and New Beat.
Hi Curses, how are you? How are you coping with confinement with your work?
It’s a shock to lose gigs, especially when that’s most musicians main source of income, but I see it as a wake up call, and a means to be creative.
Has this situation influenced your creative perspective? What social and musical implications do you think this situation can lead to?
We need to try our best to not think of ourselves and put others first. The elderly, those vulnerable to sickness, those without health insurance. This pandemic affects them more than the majority of us younger artists and musicians.
tighten our belts a bit, spend time with our loved ones at home, cook nice meals, and wait this out. Our society was living in an economically disproportionate reality. This COVID-19 reality came as a hard reset button. Its harsh, but we needed it. It’s not going to be easy, but I hope in the end it will make us stronger as a human race.
Can you tell us something about your current or future projects? Where can we continue to see and listen to Curses?
We’re actually in the middle of mixing the next album, which is scheduled to drop on Dischi Autunno in the fall. Dame Bonnet who plays bass for me when we do Curses live contributes to a lot of the songs, it’s very live focused which I’m excited about. Now that I’m not touring, I’m able to put more focus on Ombra INTL as well. International Waters, the first compilation will drop this summer with music from artists like Roe Deers, Borusiade, Amarcord, Mufti, Skelesys and more….
Stay Patient, strong and safe!
LOCAL SUICIDE
Berlin-based DJ duo & couple known for their energetic fusion of new wave, slow techno, EBM, post disco and acid house.
Hi Local Suicide, how are you? How are you coping with confinement with your work?
We are doing OK. We got struck less hard by this crisis in comparison to other artists who solely rely on music to get by, as we still have our full time day jobs. We are eating well, resting and trying to stay healthy and have been working for our day jobs from home since two weeks.
The negative side for us if that many parties where we were very much looking forward to play at got cancelled/postponed, but we are hoping to re-schedule them soon when everything is back to normal.
Has this situation influenced your creative perspective?
Since we have isolating ourselves and stopped going out and seeing friends, we are having lots of time to work on new music, remixes & mixes and are trying to make the best out of the situation.
What social and musical implications do you think this situation can lead to?
This is definitely a hard hit for everyone who cannot work and earn money. Not just Djs, bookers, promoters and clubs, but it’s a much wider problem that affects so many people out there.
Furthermore most Djs love to party, meet new people, dance etc. The fact that we have to stay at home and see no people, will definitely have a negative affect on everyone’s psychology. But on the other hand, it gives the planet a break and maybe it will refresh the scene, help people revealuate everything and have a new start after this madness is over. It has for sure already created a feeling of community. Also we are certain that many producers will use the time to make music, so there will be lots of exciting things coming out in the near future.
Can you tell us something about your current or future projects? Where can we continue to see and listen to Local Suicide?
We have loads of releases scheduled for this year. There will be two more EP’s with Kalipo on Hold Your Ground, a few EPs and tracks on compilations with Alejandro Paz, Theus Mago, Thomass Jackson, Skelesys & others and some remixes, which will be released on some of our favorite labels.

YOUNGER THAN ME
The Berlin-based Milan duo represents the link between the old rave party and the new influences of the Europe Club.
Hi guys, how are you? How are you coping with confinement with your work?
Hey there, we are in a safe quarantine from days and try to think positive but is not easy, as the most of us we are without incomes and in an uncertain situation. But as we told you try and need to think positive!
Has this situation influenced your creative perspective?
Depends of the days, before the corona emergency we started our first album and these days could be perfect to finish but as all artists around the world even us had an impact to mindthink and creative mood.
What social and musical implications do you think this situation can lead to?
We don’t know maybe when all will re start we’ll find a new world and even a new clubbing world, maybe in a good way? who knows for sure we saw in these days that the nature is apprecenting the human lockdown! maybe we are the real virus?
What social and musical implications do you think this situation can lead to?
Can you tell us something about your current or future projects? Where can we continue to see and hear Younger Than Me?
We had planned the upcoming 90’s was 3 for this spring! We know the worst period for a release but music will never stop and as we told you we are working to our first album! Is not easy we wanna put all our influences in a LP and we have a looooot of shades!
If you need something, tell me!
Stay safe bro and we’ll see on the dance floor soon!
SKELESYS
Argentinian guy Damian aka Skelesys is a versatile, ever-evolving and particularly cutting-edge artist. Born and raised in Buenos Aires His sound could be defined as haunted and effective, the result of a delicate and neat mixture of post punk with techno, marked basses, always accompanied by thriller melodies.
Hi Skelesys, how are you? How are you coping with confinement with your work?
Its a very weird situation. I think we all are in a position we never been before and nobody taught us how to handle. Regarding work is completely bad…gigs cancelled, etc but at the same time i think that this situation goes beyond everything. We have to stay safe and the more we do this the sooner it will end.
Has this situation influenced your creative perspective?
Well actually I have been using the time to finish projects, remixes etc. Is the only thing we can do. This whole thing also show us how fragile we are, and that whatever we wanna do we have to do it now! We don’t have time to waste.
What social and musical implications do you think this situation can lead to?
We are still going through this unknown waters and nobody really knows whats gonna happen next. On the other hand i feel that the scene got together in this…showing that no Matter what, its always gonna be there. But in my opinion one thing’s for sure…we as humans will not be the same once this situation goes away. We have to learn from it. We take things for granted so many times…even small things like walking on the streets.
Can you tell us something about your current or future projects? Where can we continue to see and listen to Skelesys?
I’m currently working on my first album…my idea is to go far beyond the electronic music limits and explore as much as i want without barriers. I don’t like to make music thinking what people will think or which label will like it. I’m expecting to finish it soon but also very excited with the whole process, will be definitely more musical… Also I have some EPs ready with Local Suicide which hopefully will see the light soon.
To be continue…
