EXIT Festival had one of the most impressive editions in its history!
After four days and nights, the EXIT festival ended, with more than 200,000 visitors passing through its gates from 7th to 10th July. Amazing concerts, impressive DJ sets and rarely seen energy that radiated from both the audience and the headliners, such as the great Nick Cave and Calvin Harris, raised the bar of the festival experience that visitors from over 100 countries of the world carried back home from the Petrovaradin Fortress.
EXIT took several steps forward in terms of production and genre, which was clearly visible on the biggest festival stages and zones. The incredible impressions that the main acts, such as Iggy Azalea, Sepultura, Boris Brejcha and ARTBAT shared with the fans, and also the fact that EXIT had a domestic headliner for the first time ever, Ana Đurić Konstrakta, only confirmed that the last four days of July brought one of the most impressive editions in Exit Festival history.
EXIT 2022 started with a double opening ceremony that showed two special sides of the festival. The event on the Pachamama stage started with the symbolic release of 22 doves and the unveiling of the art installation “Yellow Submarine” on the Danube, clearly demonstrating the values on which the festival rests – messages of peace were sent to the world from the Petrovaradin Fortress. The other side was brought by the traditional midnight ceremony with fireworks on the Main Stage of the Festival.
During the four festival evenings, more than 200,000 members of the EXIT tribe walked and danced through the Petrovaradin fortress, along with more than 1,000 performers who performed on over 40 festival stages and zones. The energetically charged Main Stage varied from the most intense emotions, an ode to love and tragedy brought by the one and only Nick Cave with the Bad Seeds, followed by the spectacle of today’s most sought-after producer and DJ Calvin Harris, fiery hip-hop diva Iggy Azalea, hitmaker Afrojack, Jax Jones, Alok, Joel Corry, and the fiercest guitar sound of Brazilian sensation Sepultura, Finnish Blind Channel, and alternative Belarusian band Molchat Doma. All these big names were packed into four festival nights on the Main Stage, and on the fourth night EXIT festival brought another historic moment – Ana Đurić Konstrakta as the first domestic headliner on the Main Stage in the history of the festival. “It’s a cosmic coincidence that we’re the first local Main Stage headliner ever, because we’re ‘noble, ” Konstrakta told thousands of fans.
The temple of the best electronic sounds, mts Dance Arena, gathered some of the greatest acts of today, such as Boris Brejcha, Stephan Bodzin, Adam Beyer, ARTBAT, Honey Dijon, Maceo Plex, Blond:Ish, Anfisa Letyago, Reinier Zonneveld, Monolink, Satori, Denis Sulta, Mathame, and all of them exchanged energy and rhythm with the traditionally largest audience on this stage until the early hours of the morning. The Visa Fusion Stage brought, as the name suggests, a fusion of genres, new and old generations, domestic and regional performers such as the bands Paraf, Joker Out, Brkovi, Artan Lili and Orthodox Celts, and strong international names including Marky Ramone and Noisia.
The production of the EXIT festival has been raised to the highest level so far, with the highest quality sound system and over 40 stages and zones, and even three stages have been improved compared to previous years – the new, larger space and capacity are now provided by Gang Beats, No Sleep Novi Sad and the Pachamama stage, each specific in its own way.
At this year’s Exit, two special showcases were presented – Back To The Future on the Main Stage, a concept that brought rap battles of young rap stars on the rise and legends of hip-hop from the region, and the World Music Balkans (WOMBA) showcase on the Pachamama stage, dedicated primarily to the traditional music of the Balkans in fusion with popular music genres. Under the framework of Rock @ EXIT, the cult punk band The Exploited also performed, which blew up the Explosive stage. Night after night, the No Sleep Novi Sad stage became the podium of various cult world clubs – Berlin’s Watergate with Adana Twins and Stephan Jolk, Fabrik Madrid with Airod and Indira Paganotto, Parisian underground Possession with Dax J, Hector Oaks, Parfait, as well as Life and Death showcase with Gerd Jansson and Stellarcompanion.
The spiritual side of the festival was already strengthened on Wednesday at the dress rehearsal of mts Dance Arena, and confirmed at the new, larger location of the Pachamama stage, with the melodies of music of the new consciousness and traditional music of the Balkans and a view of the Danube, the whole of Novi Sad, the most beautiful sunsets and nights, while messages of peace, empathy, love, solidarity and togetherness were posted throughout the Petrovaradin fortress.
